Note that on July 1, 2009, Rev. Kathleen Cheyney will be appointed as the minister of St. John's!!!
At St. John's, everyone is a minister.
However, the Rev. Joe Conte currently leads our congregation in worship and in service.
Joe currently serves as the Director of Church Relations and
Instructional Technology at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC.He is an Elder in the Baltimore Washington
Conference of the United
Methodist Church
and has served under pastoral appointment for fifteen years.Joe received a Bachelor of Arts from Johns Hopkins
University and holds a
Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry in Ecumenism from Wesley
Theological Seminary.He also teaches
courses in technology for ministry and ecumenism at Wesley.
Before
entering the ordained ministry, Joe practiced as a licensed Electrical Engineer
and eventually owned and operated his own engineering firm.He has always enjoyed the study and
development of new technologies and has a keen interest in the application of
technology to the ministry of the church.Working on the Annual Conference and District levels of the
denomination, Joe enjoys many opportunities to conduct workshops and seminars
on the use of technology in the local church.
In
February of 2008, Joe and his wife, Jenny, began attending St. John’sUnitedMethodistChurch
in Baltimore City.
From the outset, they found the congregation to be genuinely welcoming,
and dedicated to enacting their ministries in the greater community.Shortly thereafter, Joe placed his charge
conference affiliation with St. John’s.In the beginning of November, as Pastor Drew Phoenix answered the call to ministry in the
theatre of environmental action in Anchorage,
Alaska, Joe was asked by the
cabinet of the Baltimore Washington Conference to serve as interim pastor until
a pastoral appointment could be made.He
gladly accepted.In Joe’s words, “…in
every sense, this faith community lives out the spirit and intent of a true
reconciling congregation.I am grateful
for their willingness to respond to God’s callings for their lives, and to give
of their time, talents, and resources in bringing the gospel message to bear on
human need. Both Jenny and I are blessed
to be part of this church family and look forward to continue serving God
through the ministry of St. John’s church.”
